Mission

Key Elementary School is to provide ALL students with an academically appropriate and challenging curriculum that will enable them to be prepared and successful in middle school, high schools, and college. Key students and families' cultural and linguistic strengths will provide the foundation for our multilingual student body to excel in our local to global community. In summary:

  • We believe all children can learn.
  • We are committed to student achievement as a means of empowering our students for success in school and in life.
  • We believe that Key School is a place where culture, language, and ethnicity are valued and celebrated.
  • We are committed to providing a healthy, safe, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.
  • We see community partnerships as a priority, and strive to be the heart of our community.

Points Of Pride

Key School is located in the heart of a culturally diverse neighborhood in South Philadelphia. Over 50% of our student body are English Language Learners, representing over 20 languages. We celebrate diversity as our strength and host cultural activities throughout the year to celebrate our differences. We are a proud Positive Behavior Initiative School hosting our Keys to Success Program.

Key has worked strategically to secure partnerships to help support our students. We strengthen our school through our many community partnerships, including programs to increase student's academic success such as the Children's Literacy Initiative, Free Library of Philadelphia, William Penn House Classroom Volunteers, and Philadelphia Reads; partnerships to promote parent engagement such as the recipient of Academic Parent Teacher Teams grant to promote parent-teacher collaboration and monthly Parent Cafes through Bethanna CUA organization; health initiatives such as Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania, Einstein's and the Eat.Right.Now nutrition program, Will's Eye Hospital, and Doc Bresler's Cavity Busters; and programs that benefit student growth both inside and outside of school in their communities such as Girls on the Run, Philly Youth Volunteer Corps, and Common Market food stands.
