Mission
The Lighthouse, a settlement house, is a 501c(3) non-profit, human service organization which has been in operation since 1893 and has been providing continuous services to the Kensington and North Philadelphia communities of the City of Philadelphia. Over the Years, it has become a multi-service educational, recreational and human service provider to a multi-cultural community. The Lighthouse functions as a neighborhood center.
Points Of Pride
1. The Lighthouse Family School is the oldest neighborhood community center in the city.- - 2. We have staff members who came here for services as children.- - 3. We have an indoor swimming pool and our goal is to have all of our preschoolers water safe by kindergarten.- - 4. We have a 15 acre field complex for recreation and science activities.
Admissions Policy
Parents must be income eligible and complete paperwork. Children must be 3 years old by September 1st.- - We also have Universal Pre-k slots available,- there is no income requirements for this program.
Safety and Culture
The Lighthouse has taken numerous steps over the past few years to improve our learning environment. We have recently renovated our recreational spaces including our gym and pool. We have constructed a new indoor playroom and an outdoor garden and science center to improve our learning spaces. - - - - - - - - We are currently participating in the Success by Six program to gain expertise and guidance in future improvements.
